Kool Aid Gets Fired
A DARK COMIC ON CORPORATE GREED AND FINDING YOURSELF BY TIM PIOTROWSKI
I came across this little gem when picking through the shelves at my local comic book shop. It’s a tough time for everyone, especially the Kool-Aid Man. Costs are being cut and an easy casualty is a living pitcher of punch. Kool Aid’s bosses give him his walking papers and soon he’s desperate. I’m talking ‘Less Than Zero’ desperate. Let’s just say that his adventures take us through sex, drugs, a death, jail time and ultimately redemption. It’s dark! And not to give anything away, but Kool Aid Gets Fired comes with a bonus comic at the end, ‘Son of Kool Aid’. I always thought Ms. Butterworth was one hot bottle and apparently Kool Aid agrees.
We are treated to cameos by the likes of Charlie The Tuna, Count Chocula, and my favorite, Mr. Peanut. That’s the sandbox of icons he plays in. He’s so lucky he doesn’t even see it. What I wouldn’t give to look through Mr. Peanut’s monocle just once!
Tim Piotrowski has an eye for the little details which are part of what make this comic such a pleasure to read. He touches on issues we’ve all faced, thinked about, or feared. You laugh and get creeped out, sometimes simultaneously. It’s great fun and totally true to life. You can buy a copy for yourself directly from Tim. It’s really inexpensive and he’ll even sign it and make a naughty little drawing of Kool Aid for you. Just think: you get to be entertained, get an original work of art, and support an artist—all for six bucks! So what are you waiting for? Jump in.
