Madonna MDNA World Tour Costumes
Today we get to see some costume sketches for Madonna’s MDNA World Tour which launches tonight in Tel Aviv. For this go around, Madonna enlisted a handful of designers to create the looks. Most notably, Jean Paul Gaultier is returning after creating some brilliant equine/bondage looks for her Confessions Tour, the fabulous Jeremy Scott also returns, as does Madonna’s longtime style collaborator, the delicious Arianne Phillips.
My favorite of these just released sketches is definitely the Gaultier look. It’s classic Gaultier meets Madonna and reinterpreted for the 21st century, complete with a 3D corset in metallic leather. Yum. Monsieur Gaultier told WWD, “I love Madonna. She is the only woman I have asked to marry me. She refused, of course. But when she asked me to do a costume for her for this tour, I couldn’t refuse.”
Check out the rest of the sketches, after the jump.
Jeremy Scott for Adidas.
A look using Madonna’s Truth Or Dare brand lingerie to be released this Fall. Love the heart. Two more lingerie looks below.
Arianne Phillips.
Arianne Phillips does Joan of Arc for Maddy.

Truth Or Dare brand shoes. Prada is also supplying custom made shoes for the tour.
The above looks are only a small portion of the costumes created for the tour as this show will feature more costumes and more costume changes than any other previous Madonna tour, Arianne tells WWD.
She also mentioned something to the trade publication about masks used during the show that struck me:
“Masks are a big component to many outfits, with dancers hiding their faces behind gargoyle and bunny guises. The show explores the idea of stripping away layers of identity and discovering the layers of who you are. There’s a menacing streak to some looks, with themes of violence explored in certain segments, which are accessorized with swords, guns, armor and holsters.”
The mask theme—for exactly the same reasons—is an element I was interested in when I created KELLYGREEN [blog] and the marketing elements for it. For me, the blog, like the mask, is about “stripping away layers of identity and discovering the layers of who you are.” You can see my masks on the sign up page. You should sign up for the blog, then you could choose your own mask!
