Video: Cornel West Calls Obama Presidency A Disaster
In a great in-depth piece for Aljazeera, Princeton professor Dr. Cornel West and author Paul Street analyze President Barack Obama’s track record. It’s a 25-minute segment and it’s worth watching. They use Obama’s website as their guide for the conversation. Taking Obama’s own self-proclaimed accomplishments from the site and going point-by-point, the two, mediated by Shihab Rattansi, deconstruct his claims.
They are not shy. Of course Dr. West and Mr. Street have been critical of the Obama Presidency for quite some time, here they lay it all out, neatly in near-perfect outline form.
It serves as a good primer to any liberal thinking he or she will vote for Obama come November.
Dr. West’s take is dominated by a clear point, Obama has “[allowed] criminal behavior in Wall Street to go unpunished,” while Mr. Street agrees and adds the shameful fact that now in the US “half of the population is designated as low income.”
In addition to banks running amok, corrupt corporations having too much influence in politics, and Obama’s need to prove himself to the establishment, the two also touch on Obama’s horrific Bush-like tactics on terror and his attack on habeas corpus.
