Yes & No: R.E.M., Patti Smith, James Franco, And Lindsay Lohan
JAMES FRANCO DIRECTS LINDSAY LOHAN IN NEW R.E.M. VIDEO, ‘BLUE’
It’s great to see something new from R.E.M. The track ‘Blue’ is from their final album ‘Collapse Into Now’ (2011), but the video was just uploaded to the band’s Youtube page yesterday.
The clip is a hazy montage of L.A. clichés we’ve all seen way too many times. Yep, they’re all there: The Chateau Marmont, The Sunset, The Roosevelt Hotel, back lots, and Lindsay Lohan in a photoshoot wearing Terry Richardson’s double nose bridge glasses. Actors just love to jack-off all over L.A.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love parts of L.A., but isn’t there anything new to show us? What’s going on in L.A. now? Certainly the Chateau Marmont can’t still be the most interesting thing out there. If someone can find something more compelling, they should let Hedi Slimane over at YSL know about it, because he seems to still be mesmerized by all the same Los Angeles retreads.
Now I’m getting off course. Let’s ignore the video for the moment, because the song is much more interesting. It’s actually much fresher than anything we see in the clip and that’s pretty impressive from a band that dates back to 1980. My favorite part of the song? Patti Smith’s moody moan. Yum.
