Vintage MTV: Kurt Cobain Talks About Madonna And Vogue

[ , , , , , , , , , , , ]

In this clip from MTV Brasil, circa 1993, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain talks about Madonna. In the first part of the interview he mentions Madonna signing groups like Prodigy and Candlebox to her record label Maverick and how he doesn’t feel she was being sincere. In a refreshing turn, he mentions where he does have respect for Madonna and why.

He talks about her introducing Vogue into the mainstream. Vogueing as an art form was, of course, pioneered by the late great Willi Ninja. A contemporary of Mr. Ninja, and current resident child of the House of Ninja, Javier Ninja joined Maddy on stage at the Super Bowl last year to dance during her ‘Vogue’ performance. Watch him after the jump.

There’s Javier above. Below, you can watch a video of him doing his thing.

Malcolm McLaren was also an early fan of the Vogue Balls that took place in Harlem. He did a song called ‘Deep In Vogue’. Listen:

And finally, Vogueing and ball culture are immortalized in the must-see documentary ‘Paris Is Burning’:
