Madonna Tops Billboard’s Money Makers 2013 List
Unsurprisingly, Madonna leads all other musicians when it comes to money. Now, Billboard’s list only takes into consideration the money an artist earns directly from their music (digital music sales, physical music sales, touring) and not an artist’s other projects (merchandising, clothing lines, perfume, etc). If this was taken into consideration, Madonna’s tally would be around $100 million, which is pretty normal for her during a touring year.
Interestingly, Billboard points out, that 93.5% of her music earning total comes from touring (as opposed to physical and digital sales). This is the case with most artists on the list (touring is where the money’s at).
One big exception is Adele. Ah, yes, Adele. Her two-year old album ’21′ is still finding new fans and has so-far sold a now unheard of 4 million physical units in the U.S. Billboard points out that Adele does this without any touring or any kind of promotion for that matter. Adele ranks #11 on the list. Bruce Springsteen is #2.

Lady Gaga is immensely talented. She has a great voice, writes a good pop song, and can play piano. She can dance. Kinda. Anyway, I’ve always felt she comes across much older than she is. She’s 26, but often carries herself and speaks like she’s 36. And I mean this is the most complementary way possible. Not in the Lindsay Lohan Red Bull and cigarettes kind of way.
It’s only when she whines that I’m reminded of her age. She often paints herself as the victim, and gets down in the mud to wallow. Why bother? She’s been pretty successful in her endeavors so far, no?

[more]Frank Ocean Cancels All Upcoming European Dates Including Coldplay Openers
In what appears to be a way to stave off any serious Adele-like vocal issues, last night Frank Ocean canceled his scheduled appearance at Sweden’s Way Out West Festival, his other upcoming European festival dates, and the shows he had scheduled to open for Coldplay during their European tour.
Frank issued a statement through the Way Out West Festival organizers that read:
“Let me start by saying I feel like an asshole right now, but a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next few months. The casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as fuck, I’ll be back if you have me. (sic)”
No specific reason was given for the cancellations, but after only performing 4 songs at the Oya Festival in Oslo, the audience was told he was suffering from vocal problems. He also pulled out of his appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago as well as a recent show in Detroit.
This seems like a pretty common issue when a relatively new singer gets so popular so fast. Their voices can’t handle the meteoric rise. Hopefully Frank’s voice can get the rest that it needs.
