Kanye West: Finally, Post-Wiig Brilliance On SNL
After a full year of disappointing Saturday Night Live without Kristen Wiig (even with last week’s unfunny Kristen Wiig) we finally have something to talk about.
Kanye West performed two new songs, ‘Black Skinhead’ and ‘New Slaves’ last night on SNL. Both better than anything else we’ve seen on the sketch show in quite sometime. On Friday night Kanye debuted (unannounced) a video projection of ‘New Slaves’ on 66 walls around the world including Prada’s 5th Avenue store.
Last night was the first time we’ve seen him perform his new work. His performance was an artfully controlled fury of anger, defiance, self-reliance, empowerment and as always, clever wordplay. He snarled and barked in front of large video projections of dobermans and discount sale signs. The most prominent one reading: ‘Not For Sale’.
Something no one ever says about Kanye? He uses simple lighting to great effect in his live performances.
Kanye’s new album, ‘Yeezus’ will be released on June 18.

I think Frank Ocean is horny. First he posts a picture of his crotch, then one of him in the bathtub. Not that I’m complaining. Finally, he just recently posted a pic of the Tenga sex toy (the Opening Ceremony version, to boot!), along with the caption, ‘innovation’.
Apparently he’s working on an upcoming HIV/AIDS prevention project, so some are saying that this is a precursor to that. Because if there’s one way to prevent HIV/AIDS, it’s fucking a piece of rubber. No judgments. We’ve all been there.

It’s about goddamn time. I became obsessed with Eleanor Friedberger about a year ago and have been listening to her debut album ‘Last Summer’ ever since. I told myself I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t get new Eleanor music soon. Just in the nick of time, my friend Mark said to me, “Don’t worry, Phil, new music is coming”. Well, wouldn’t you know it, he was right!

Balenciaga’s new Creative Director, Alexander Wang interviews rapper A$AP Rocky for Interview’s April 2013 issue. There are also some cool shots from photographer Craig McDean. My favorite quote from the interview?
A$AP tells Mr. Wang, “…one big issue in hip-hop is the gay thing. It’s 2013, and it’s a shame that, to this day, that topic still gets people all excited. It’s crazy. And it makes me upset that this topic even matters when it comes to hip-hop, because it makes it seem like everybody in hip-hop is small-minded or stupid—and that’s not the case.”

Now, for those of you not up-to-date with your fancy police jargon, that loosely translates to ‘bitch was having a good ol’ time and the po-po got her’.
