LOL. It’s like ‘Showgirls’ mixed with ‘Drive’ in these clips from Nicholas Winding Refn’s new film, ‘Only God Forgives’. I’m also reminded of Diane Ladd in David Lynch’s fantastic ‘Wild At Heart’ except Diane Ladd goes so over the top, you can’t help but be fascinated by her audacity and craziness. Talk about a fearless performance. In this film, Kristen Scott Thomas just comes across as silly and camp. But, hey—it could be a fun popcorn night at the movies, right? Camp can be terribly enjoyable. I mean, Kristen Scott Thomas actually proudly recites the line, “How many cocks can you entertain with that cute little cum dumpster of yours?” And who am I to argue, really?

I have a few friends who really liked ‘Drive’ and even Ryan Gosling’s latest, ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’, but for me they suffer from the same malady: Tree of Life-itis. You can pack all the pretty pictures and cool camera tricks into the film that you want, but if the story isn’t there, the movie just feels hollow. For me, Gosling’s best work is still ‘Half Nelson’.
