Madonna: Pop Music’s First Billionaire

The NY Post is reporting that Madonna has now moved into the billion dollar club. WWD had long reported her net worth to be around $700 million, but her recent MDNA tour and a string of successful business ventures has pushed her over the top.

One of the best parts of Madonna’s MDNA tour was the backdrop videos. They were produced by the French Canadian company, Moment Factory, who also directed Madonna’s video for ‘Gimme All Ur Luvin”.
I particularly liked the opening shots of the cathedral (they made a flat image really feel dimensional and architectural), the black-on-black images for ‘Revolver’, and perhaps the best were the most simple: the geometric shapes for ‘Celebration’ that closed the show. My only issue with the stage/videos for MDNA was that everything was so front-facing. What about us bitches on the sides?

It would certainly make sense if Madonna decided to extend her MDNA Tour. In fact, I would be quite surprised if she didn’t. It was easily the highest grossing tour of 2012 and all shows that have been reported so far have been sell-outs. So why leave money on the table, especially if there’s still major markets like Japan and Australia to cover?

Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ tour far out-sold all other shows in 2012. According to Billboard, her trek grossed $228,406,085 from 72 shows, all sell-outs. Billboard’s data only covers Boxscore reports from November 9, 2011 to November 13, 2012, so it doesn’t even include her full tour which will wrap up in Córdoba, Argentina on December 22nd. However, I have a hunch that—like the Sticky & Sweet Tour—Madonna and team will announce an additional leg to take place sometime in 2013, most likely in the Summer (when her kids are out of school). Why leave money on the table?
At this point, MDNA is on-track to be in the top 10 tours of all time (Sticky & Sweet is number 4, btw). This will give Madonna the rare distinction of being the only solo act to have two tours in the top 10 (Roger Waters has 1). She’ll be the only woman in the top 10.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band came in second on the top tours list. His trek grossed $199,371,791 from 72 shows (54 sell-outs).
Lady Gaga came in at number 6 for the year.

LUCIANO HUCK INTERVIEWS MADONNA FOR BRAZILIAN TV FROM THE FLOOR OF HER HOTEL BATHROOM
This is a great chat. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Madonna so relaxed during an interview. It’s filmed directly after one of her shows in Miami. We actually see her get off the elevator and Mr. Huck is waiting for her. She seems sincerely happy to see him. You can tell the two have a good rapport, as they’ve known each other for years.
They proceed to her bathroom where she’s laid out a towel for him to sit on. They go back and forth about the show and what she likes about Brazil. Her son Rocco comes in to tell her goodnight—aww!

[more]Madonna Licks (And Gets Licked?) Last Night In NYC
The MDNA tour wound up back in New York the past two nights for shows at Madison Square Garden. Of course I’m sure you’ve already heard that Madonna went ‘Gangnam Style’ with special guest PSY (we’ll pretend it never happened). But what you may not have known was that Maddy seemed to have a particular oral fixation last night. I’ll just let the pics speak for themselves.
